Course description

This course looks at different ways of researching media, culture, and creative cities from the multidisciplinary perspective. It covers a range of theories and techniques related to research design, data collection (e.g., questionnaire survey, interview, observation, and secondary data), data analysis (e.g., discourse analysis and statistical analysis), report writing and presentation, and research ethics.

This course will be interactive and collaborative. In each class, students will be encouraged to actively join discussions with peers and the instructor. Students will also conduct an original research project based on their interest and experience, using the concepts and methods covered by lectures.

Course learning outcomes

  1. Understand the key concepts and debates on research methods, including their advantage and limitation.
  2. Identify and use proper research methods in accordance with research aims and feasibility.
  3. Analyse and present data with clear implications.
  4. Evaluate prior studies and relevant policy/practice in a critical manner from the methodological perspective.
